Amazake isn't just nothing like sake, it's 0.0% alcohol. That's why the kiddies can drink it, no problem. I'm assuming the Admiral got real sake because he's an adult.

Amazake is basically just a tart liquid rice pudding.

There is a bit of alcohol in some types of Amazake. But it's around 2% at worst and that would be incredibly unusual.

The stuff they serve at new year's tend to be made non alcoholic, in case you need to drive later. Not to say that they don't also have alcoholic ones, they're separate.

The canned ones at my local supermarket are certainly 0.0.

I like how Lebe is conscious of these types of situations whilst being oblivious to the many opportunities she's had (and failed to take advantage of) previously.

I dunno, may just be a mental thing, like a placebo. I used to drink really weak beer, and thought I was drunk (or even tipsy) until someone pointed out that's stupid and I was just fooling myself.

Some people can also get drunk on soda, though in that case it's a legitimate (albeit uncommon) medical condition.

Some people just get dry drunk.

There was a study done with non-alcoholic beer, where the participants acted as if they were rather drunk, and conversely, acted less drunk when they were told it was non- or low-alcohol beer, but was in fact just normal.

While there are physiological effects that occur with intoxication, it does seem that a good proportion of being 'drunk' is psychosomatic, until you get to the point where it does physically affect you.
