Sometimes I find it funny some people will keep repeating speaking in the same language despite realising the other person can't reply in that language. Though it may be because its the only language they can speak...

I actually added it myself, once I tracked down that final hanzi. (I was able to find everything besides 嗎 on my usual kanji resources.) I pondered adding the equivalent English, since I was generally able to figure the gist from machine translations, but I'm not sure if it's worth it since the meaning's given in panel 4 anyway.

It's an exclamative particle. This one is used to emphasize the questioning nature of the statement. Mandarin has lots of them.

@Moonspeaker: I don't know if it's stronger than the JP equivalent or not, but we usually use 嗎 to indicate that what was just spoken is meant to be a question and that an answer is typically expected.

So it's kind of like a stronger version of the Japanese interrogative particle "ka". Appreciate the explanation. I'm afraid I'd need a lot more education in speaking/writing Chinese (as I know maybe six words/phrases, tops) before I could make substantial use of it, but it's always neat to learn something new.

I'm tempted to say that it's fine as it is -- it lets us join in Kogasauthor's confusion, and in the enlightenment down in the fourth panel.

I'm pretty sure that's what 完全無欠　means in this context.

I'd leave it as is - the lack of understanding is part of the note, and for anyone who can't read Mandarin, it'll play into it perfectly.

吗 is really common in Chinese. as others have said, it's tacked on to the end of questions in general. (Also I'm a simplified Chinese guy so I can barely read traditional Chinese/kanji, but it's hard.)

Context-wise, 嗎/吗 is almost similar to Japanese か; both are final interrogative particles, and are the most standard ones for their respective languages. I wouldn't exactly say it's stronger.

They do differ significantly from a morphological perspective, however. Notably 嗎/吗 can only be used to form tag questions, where a yes/no (or rather, affirmative/negative, because Chinese like Japanese and Latin has no strict analogues for yes/no) is expected. In contrast か can be slapped onto any declarative statement to turn it into a question, including open-ended ones.
