    いやー、一時はどうなることかと思いました!
    もちろん普通に各個室にセットされているところも多いです。

    Hang in There, Kogasa-san 1983

I tell you, for a minute, I wasn't sure what would happen!

Of course, there are plenty of toilets that have the paper set in each stall, as normal.

    The survey doesn't stall around:

What would you do at a time like this?
    • Call out to the next stall over
    • Do it by hand
    • Give up and stay like that
    • Wait in expectation of some ability awakening
    • Stop thinking about it

Reader-added tags include "Don't have any pocket tissues", "The moment you realize the grandeur of pocket tissues" and "I'll wipe with my undies".

Nobody told Kogasa to bring her own? It's not like it's her first trip to Taiwan...

    Translations, doubled.

I'm not entirely sure about what I would do if I was stuck like that, really.

    This option though.
    - Do it by hand

Makes me remember of an episode in Gintama. I think it was said something like "You know why God gave us two hands? One is for holding the sword, the other is for..." [buncha people were stuck without paper in this scene]

In SEA countries, it was the norm that you...err, rub some soap on that hand and clean up your bumhole.
Never wanna go back there without tissues.

I'm not sure about other SEA countries, but in Malaysia and Singapore at least, do the same as shown in the 4koma here. You take the approximate amount you need (though people usually take a lot more than they need) before you take a dump.

Better to be safe than sorry.

I don't want to ever go there at all I think, what with my stomach issues I can't really bring enough paper with me... Unless I take a roll of paper everywhere, which is embarassing in its own way.

Some Hong Kong public bathrooms have this setup as well, with the communal toilet roll at the door. A lot of toilets have moved towards the roll in each stall though.

It used to be like that back in the 80s - since the 90s,they've moved to having toilet paper in each stall. In older buildings which haven't updated, though....

Still, it's not a bad idea to carry some.

This... doesn't make much sense to me. If it was an effort to conserve toilet paper by only having one roll then it seems it would be really ineffective. No one knows how much paper they'll need, and no one wants to be stuck with none, so everyone would take more than they would ever need.

Singapore: some toilet have 2 kind of stall, the squatting one usually will have a water hose provided.
Indonesia: usually have both water hose and paper towel, even for the sitting one. Also due to the pipe limitation, you are not supposed to throw the paper towel to the toilet or it might clog.

frankly, flowing water is cleaner, especially if the toilet have water bidet.

    A few public toilets I've been in must've have been in very old buildings then. Worse case scenario is that there isn't any paper at all... -_-;

    At Ruifang station...
    Waaaah!
So, what did you finally do?
I can't step out of heeeerrrrre!!
I just happened to have a memo pad for jotting down messages...
Crumple It Well and Then Use It
    ...Kogasa-san's in a pinch.
You take the amount you'll need from here and then enter the stall.
Public toilets in Taiwan are often equipped with large toilet paper rolls at the entrance.
