I'd spend all day dancing with my Pokemon.

Gamefreak is really trying everything now aren't they?

First the "Z" poses and now dancing can power up your pokemon?

I guess they're throwing any darts to see what sticks.

You make it sound like a bad thing; personally speaking, this is the best thing ever

This was probably one of the most adorable things ever. The entire dance is just cute and I love it.

This is actually a callback to a Pikachu dance they created back then. And it's not so bad since people were always complaining about Pokemon always being the same and now that they're taking such drastic steps, people are still complaining so I like that they just don't give a shit and is just going for it.

Also, little kids love those poses and dances and shit so I say it's about time Gamefreak's returning to their original purpose of making the game more child fun.

I don't understand how people can complain about this.

As a fan of the games ever since they first came out, more ways to experience Pokemon = good in my book.

And that dance is amazingly cute. If we can do this with every type (and it isn't limited to a few fights so we can do it whenever we want) then the next gen will be goddamn amazing.

(I hope though that we get a specialized dance with Pokemon other than Pikachu, especially the starters)

I'm not against the inclusions of Z-moves, but I personally just don't think any of the dances look good. They just look dumb and childish, seems like too much pandering to the kids.

Yes I know it is a kids game, but they could've gone with something like Megas which appeals to both the adults and kids alike.

Pokemon had been doing well with Go and the XY anime in proving itself that adults can openly like Pokemon without having to be embarrassed about it, but this just doesn't help that case at all.

Then there's the problem that all these animations are needlessly long, so I'd be glad if I can turn them off.

For other people, I guess many can also dislikes it because it wreaks of potentials of being broken as hell. And Pokemon competitive scene, ironically, is already convoluted enough for a children's game.

I'd be very surprised if one can't skip this animation. They take way too long and longer then regular moves. Either through a press of a button or in the settings.

There's a good chance that these moves will only be able to be used in the story, not in PvP.

Also, people just need to accept that Pokemon will always be primarily aimed at kids. Gamefreak has no obligation to focus on the older generation because that has never been the focus of Pokemon. That's just the selfish bias of the people who grew up with the games and are now adults.

I work with elementary/middle school kids in Japan and a lot of them feel that Pokemon is getting "too old" for them lately, so I think stuff like this is a push to get back in touch with the younger generation, which again, was always supposed to be the focus of Pokemon.

That's not to say that the older generation can't like stuff like this. I mean really, I personally love the dances and how cute they look. It helps me get in touch with my inner kid again. Who says that adult can't like kiddish things?

We'll definitely be able to skip the animations, if the mega evolve posing skip from the previous gen was any indication. I can see it getting a bit tiring after the Nth time seeing it.

But really though, people just can't be pleased with GF trying new things.

No. If they were trying everything they'd have made the game world more sandbox-y, they'd add more customization to your trainer, make the game an action rpg or strategy-based ala FFTactics, have more than 8 gyms, a variable elite 4 that changes based on whatever you're using, make it an online multiplayer and add super boss monsters that require you to team up with others or use your whole team at the same time

...or hell they'd at least let you have more than 4 moves and 6 pokemon at a time.

    Then they'd be trying everything.

I remember hearing somewhere that pokemon in it's drawing board stage was originally going to be about wizards summoning demons and was for an older player base.

Fair point. Again I know this is done for the kids, and to the kids, I guess it is working well enough.

But combine this with the new Sun and Moon anime, and you can see how some might get the ideas that GF is being rather too desperate to win back the kids crowd from the likes of Youkai Watch. Which again, looking at the sales, is also an understandable concern.

There's also the fact that there's literally going to be 900 Pokemons now. That number alone could turn away many kids.

I just think that there's ways this could've been handled better. There are things both kids and adults can openly like, Disney films, ice cream, and the aforementioned Megas for example. I just thought it'd be a better win-win for everyone if they managed to land that sort of appeal.

There are things like Teletubbies where it just wreaks of immaturity and most adults would feel ashamed even being seen watching it. This dance thing feels more like that sort of appeal.

But again, as long as I don't have to be forced to watch these animations for 50 thousand times while playing competitive, I'm fine with them personally.
