I think it's supposedly a reflection of a Japanese idol's supposed life prior to the 1990s.
Idols, especially female idols, were always to be presented as cheery and pleasant[1], like the idealized "girl next door." Their public and "private" lives are vastly different, with the latter being strictly monitored.
I find it very confusing. Normally the scared/traumatized person wouldn't dare to trust somebody if they are threat or dangerous yet this panel... Unless if pokemoa made fun of her trust in comedy, so he had to add traumatized face for comedy rather than adding sad expression? Uhh do I make sense? Aw shoot, my mind hurts. But obviously I'd compare this to the pet dogs. I guess?

I think the joke is that it doesn't even trust its own trainer. Note how she isn't even looking at Brionne.
