Gravely serious. Just means serious. But doesn't seem enough, so it became gave German I guess.

The best detail here is how the writing on the paper in the third panel trails off into a scrawled line.

sorry to poke this old thing but...in my eyes the very best detail is that the page isn't supposed to be read in the japanese left-to-right way but the western right-to-left
