Interestingly, verniy is derived from vera + niy/nyj, so it literally means 'truthlike' (or 'truthy'). The 'vera' part is cognate to Latin vera ('true', 'real', 'proper', 'right'...) and veritas (transcendent 'truth'). This also makes it cognate to all the English veri- and vera- words.
