In fact, I suspect that if you had just allowed it to remain at sea the abyssals would have either killed and torn it apart or it killed all of them, meaning that all major issues would have been done with. The only thing required after that would be to keep a steady surveillance over the *single* hostile and simply bomb it if it got to close to shore.
