Because Danbooru isn't a platform for artists to share their own stuff like DeviantArt or Tumblr is, but rather a platform for "curation", collecting what is, in theory, the "best of the best". Anyone would be inherently biased towards including their own art in such a collection, so the rule against uploading your own art is in place to avoid that bias. In other words, you have to prove that your art is good enough that someone else thinks that it deserves to be here.
It's been extensively discussed in the forum. If you search for the thread you can read every boring reason we've came up for why it's bad idea and we don't allow it.
