Why isn't there more Amagiri arts here? She's the first meganekko in a while, and she seems to be a pretty cool girl too.

    That would be because:
    a) She's a rare drop, not a map reward.
    b) Most artists don't draw new ships until they have them and current event is still two more weeks in progress.
    c) There are so many destroyers it's hard for them to stand up against carriers, battleships, submarines and specially foreign ships.
    d) It doesn't help she's basically a carbon copy of Akebono with a different personality (and glasses).

For the time being, you could take any Akebono artwork, grayscale it and Photoshop some glasses over: problem solved.

A and B don't much matter - Potato destroyers are common as dirt (Shirayuki is essentially guaranteed to be in every fleet), but get way less art than Yamakaze. Also, due to the "drawing a shipgirl makes her more likely to appear" urban legend, rare ships are actually much more likely to be drawn when artists don't have them, directly the opposite of B.

So far as C goes, that presumes that destroyers are only in competition against destroyers and battleships are only in competition against battleships. While there are certainly artists that are only catering to the lolicon or giant breasts crowds, there are plenty of "6th Des Div and Kongous together" comics around. It seems more like the competition is between the shipgirls released in the same event.

As for D, I get the feeling she's more like Kirishima in Akebono's body. But regardless, this is the one that likely gets closest to the truth.

I'd also add that the "foreign ships" tend to get a lot more attention than the Japanese ones. As previously stated, there tends to be one or two clear "winners" of the popularity contest between a batch of ships released at a time, and Ark Royal is the winner this time, with Hatakaze, Richelieu, and Luigi following up after that. Among the "domestics", it's Hatakaze that seems to have captured the attention of the artists (in spite of being a destroyer, herself), in spite of being basically just yellow Harukaze with a ponytail.

I'd personally say the single biggest reason, that Amagiri is the loser of this batch, however, is just because her personality type (the more serious/diligent type) is not as distinctive as many of the others. Sagiri is pretty much Ushio without breasts (and Ushio was popular almost entirely on the basis of breasts to start with...), and has all the same factors Rom Collector listed against her, but has twice the artwork of Amagiri. Even compared to tsundestroyer Akebono (and even the least popular Tsundestroyer, Michishio, is more popular than the average destroyer), Amagiri is much more generic in her personality, taking up the "Nachi" (or more to the point, "Oboro") role where she will likely only get popular if her sister-ships are popular. Being a weight that leans on her sister-ship's popularity, that means that, since the Ayanamis aren't typically made into a whole sister-ship clique (which would ironically include the self-same 7th Des Div they're compared to) the way that the Shiratsuyus or nearly any cruisers or battelships are, she's relying basically entirely upon Sagiri for popularity... and Sagiri's basically just less-popular Ushio.

What would be more amusing is when people remember Ayanami exists and has a sub-class reunion where Amagiri is thrown in the same sister-ship lump with Akebono for them to squabble over their favorite younger sisters.

Always assuming everything is black or white, no surprise from you. However it's my fault for not mentioning it could be any of them instead of all at once.

Makes me wonder how long you spend your time uploading, checking the comment section, researching topics to pretend you know about and writing tl;dr essays. It's almost like if you don't have anything else to do anywhere else. Not my business anyway, but I kind of envy that much free time doing nothing. :P

BTW, I suggest you to research about being brief. It helps a lot.

I thought the same thing until I learned that Amagiri wears bike shorts which is all I need to get interested.
