Very much, according to surviving crews. I read a record from a surviving German tank crew member, who said the noise was deafening. Also, the armor plate will instantaneously get red hot, where it is hit, if it is heavily deformed. If this happens multiple times, the heat inside the tank can quickly become unbearable.
