Lyn was basically the first "visual novel" style interaction I'd ever had. Something about Rekka no Ken made me fall in love with the character. She'll always be one of my favorites.

That's pretty much why North America keeps her as the #1 female character in the FE charts, as well as Ike and Hector at or near the top of the men's division.

I liked the "passive" MC they had in RnK, and am disappointed they made future versions into proper units. Low stats in basically everything except Luck if I recall. Considering you don't meet Lyn until after you've been accosted by bandits, I tend to assume the MC had bad good luck, implying terrible suffering as the harbinger of good fortune.

...Nintendo seems to like torturing me though. They will never allow the Tactician to reunite with Lyndis, and all of her dialogue in Heroes and Awakening puts him in the friend zone. She constantly talks about how she likes strong fighters which the Tactician is most certainly not. Everything she says is like an arrow through the heart!

Are you kidding me? Lyn (especially in some of her alts) is ludicrously Protago-sexual. All her lines basically amount to "I just met you 5 minutes ago, but you're the most important person in my life. Here, let me do some of your work for you so you can take a nap in my lap pillow!" Brave!Lyn in particular basically goes, "I crossed dimensions just because you called for me, I'll do anything for you!!"

Just because they tone it down from outright openly saying she wants you inside her right this moment because they know that SOME players are going to be straight women or were really into shipping Lyn and Eliwood or Hector doesn't mean they're making as much open invitation for Lyn to wind up with your character (if she can fight off some of the other ludicrously gushy characters like Fjorm, Gunnthra, or Ike (!)).

She consistently tells the player he/she reminds her of someone else who is always referred to as a dear friend.

I suppose I am a bit happy that the various FE player characters are distinct from one another. The Tactician being a weak background nerd with bad luck makes him stand out, and I'd rather that character not be violated for any reason.

But I really hate having Lyn feel like she's so close yet so very far away at the same time. That might be a bit weird, but that's how I feel about the whole thing.

Yeah, but they all kind of do that. Even Male!Kana calls you "Mama" "by mistake", and basically everyone somehow confuses you for the radically different MCs or stand-in characters. (And both Morgans treat you as more important than the mother or father they're looking for, even if they're standing right next to six different flavors of Robin.) This gets especially bad with Reinhardt. I mean, we're basically just some schmucks randomly sucked up from nowhere, but apparently, we're ALL chosen one gods of strategy the likes of which no world has ever seen?!

Well, considering the whole Embla-Contract thingy, isn't it kinda implied that your summoning brainwashes your heroes just as much as Veronica's does? Except it's apparently less of a "follow my every word" kind of brainwashing and more of a "this random shmuck seems really likable and trustworthy, he totally reminds you of this great friend of yours..."
