アマゾネス comes directly from the Greek plural form Ἀμαζόνες "Amazones" and is not meant to be an English word ending in "-ess", which would be redundant as Mazryonh notes. Still, the translation of "Amazoness" is used sometimes, like in Sailor Moon SuperS or in the fan translation of Seiken Densetsu 3, though it's technically incorrect.
