They had something similar called a Drager apparatus. It was a combination lifebouy and rebreather that hypothetically allowed for slim odds of swimming out of a sinking u-boat and making it to the surface.

Before it got translated, I read it as 深海さん　とこ　の　生き物, but I have to admit, it's a lot better when read as 深海さん　と　この　生き物.

Accurate translations are important and all, but calling Yuu "this creature here" was so very much on point for Nonco's base and was the funniest part of this comic for me.

I read it the same way Paracite did... but yeah, the alternative does make more sense and fit the characters' in-setting knowledge better.

It'd be super obvious which one it would be when spoken out loud though.

I don't know if you can actually put this in the "Unexpectedly Evil" pool, since Nonco's Yuu has never been shown to be the brightest bulb. She probably didn't mean anything bad by biting into the lifebuoy; she's just like a curious child, putting everything she finds into her mouth (See: Kanna Kamui from Maid-dragon)
