There is no "sad truth" here. This is just art, and drawn by an artist who very likely grew up in Japan in all their life. They've gone through their own experiences, and this is just the portrayal of something they think could happen. The actual truth is that everyone is different and the world we all share is one that's driven by money and survival. Women are as free to choose how they'd want a relationship to go as much as we are. The sooner you realize not everything will be spoon-fed to you on a silver platter, the faster Hope will look in your direction. Think with your brain, not your dick.
And FYI, I don't deserve love from anyone because I'm a complete waste of oxygen, but at least I'm self-aware about my crippling flaws.
