I think it's more of a parody of Oregon Trail. I remember hearing about that if you brought cards with you, in your journal it always writes that you believe your opponent cheated.
It is a Resident Evil parody. Check the Keeper's Diary in the files faq from gamefaqs. The month and day match with the pictures and the general events as described are very similar.
