Japanese site tags(Niconico and Pixiv) tends to be less of "let's specify this so people can have easier time searching" and "let's make joke tags that applies only to 1 or 2 vid/pic in the entire site because lulz".

And also "hey let's come up with 2–5 tags that all refer to the same character or series (e.g. Kantai Collection and Kancolle), so anyone who wants to find all relevant vid/pic/novels have to do multiple separate searches or wrangle with some 'convoluted' Boolean logic (well, more convoluted because of the input format instead of the Boolean logic itself). Oh and we only have a low tag limit of 10~ or so, so most people will only use ONE of the tags."

Oh and let's not forget "hey, we only have 10 or so tags right? So let's use a single multi character tag instead to save on space, like Inazuma/Ikazuchi/Akatsuki/Hibiki/Fubuki/Shirayuki/etc. What, too hard and specific to search? Just use wildcards!"

(Oddly the porn-related tags are standardized to a much better degree. Priorities.)

Then you when you realize Chinese and English artists tend to add tags in their native languages. And god bless you if said character's name has various way of writing it in said language.

That really made searching for sten_mk2_(girls_frontline) art harder, and the fact artists rarely draw her is sad...

Oh yes, let's see... traditional Chinese hanzi tags, simplified Chinese hanzi tags, and the dreaded unholy mishmash of traditional and simplified Chinese hanzi with Japanese kanji because "I forgot how to read that rare hanzi so I'm gonna just copy-pasta that part".

Edit: For English tags, it's the usual variations on spaces and hyphens and periods. And typos, lots of them sometimes. Makes me itch for Soundex searching (search by phonemes/'sounds' instead of letters).
