So what are people going to post on the imageboards? Pics with translations in text next to them?

I regularly see contributors posting lame oekaki line-art, which is far lower quality than these. If you're going to lambast him for posting these, you should be going after the oekaki posters as well.

He's not criticizing him over posting this for the art, he's criticizing him for posting a hard translation of something that has already been posted in it's original form.

I think the current stance is now to tolerate it, so long as the translation is good, the grammar is good, font is good, etc.

I don't mind these hard translations being posted. It allows for easier saving and sharing.

This. I mean, c'mon, if you like to save pics and view them from your hard drive instead of just wandering back to Danbooru every so often, it kind of loses something when you have no idea what the amusing text says.

In short: quitcher bitchin', more of these please.

How about this? You make your hard translation and post it on *chan instead of Danbooru.

How about this: You lose nothing by having hard translations posted here. People who LIKE hard translations do if we can't post them here. As long as the translation links to the original, there's no problem, so please cram your noisehole.

Hey, lay off the offensive language. I was simply pointing out that if 90% of all people on Danbooru really are *channers, that 90% shouldn't have any trouble finding the hard translation on *chan and it shouldn't be necessary to post it on Danbooru in the first place.

Without people like Soljashy, there wouldn't be any translations in the first place.

Who is "r∞", anyway? The translation he took from Danbooru was the result of three people's efforts; even if he were one of them, he'd be stealing credit for other people's work. Not nice.
The translation was wrong too, as Soljashy pointed out in the comments on the original post.

Wrong. *chans are transient imageboards. If you miss an image you may not see it again. Danboou is basically an image library. What is an image library for if not for posting images?

Let's be honest here: no one ever reads translator/editor credits anyway. And 'stealing credit for translating a single page of a comic' sounds slightly silly as far as I'm concerned.
Which is almost no one adds editor/translator credits to single strips. I never do.

When he delivers a more accurate translation I'll be happy to edit it.

This is how I see this entire argument: the Mods haven't deleted the image yet, so it's awwwriiiight.

And what's wrong with posting hard-translated images went you see a lot more duplicate images that are far more useless?

I don't visit any -chan sits, but I like hard translations... :'-(
That and I know on a large *chan site, a posted image could be there one day and gone the next, which would make it kinda hard to find again :(

You seem to be ignoring the fact that this image hasn't been approved for keeping, so by default it's going to be deleted.

    What Soljashy said x2.

I've nothing against hard translations, but I was fairly wary when this was posted only 4 hours after the original's last part was "translated" (which the person admitted it was added only for completion from an anon's hard translation). You should at least consider giving time for people to review the translation before taking it. Though, if you're not going to give those who translated it credit, then I don't see why you should be posting these.

Like I said, no one ever adds credits for editing/translation of single pages or strips. It's unnecessary.

Welp, you beat me to that one...

The image didn't break any rules to warrant a deletion. Just because it's not mod-approved doesn't mean it's gonna get deleted for no reason. An image can stay pending for as long as it takes a mod to notice and approve of it.

However, I would hope the fact that the translation is wrong would be enough to keep it from getting approved.

Well, someone put that "r∞" signature there, and I read it: your arguments fail in the face of fact. It's also worse than simply not giving credit: it's taking credit that belongs to someone else (hence "stealing"). Anyway, whoever edited this picture wanted his signature to be recognized; does anybody know who this "r∞" is?

Wrong? Just because someone else interpreted the text differently doesn't mean it's wrong. Translating is a very subjective business.

Subjective doesn't mean that every answer is correct. A translation can be wrong.

Yep, I pointed it out in the comments but didn't actually fix the note until now. I'm not sure I like the phrasing I came up with, though.

The reason he was speaking in Japanese was to prove that he is justified in saying that this is a bad Japanese tranlsation. I'd trust his judgement over yours anyway. Perhaps if we had some Polish to translate, your judgment would trump his.

As it is, I don't see how you can argue that it is or isn't a good translation without knowing anything of the source language.

Okay, you're right. I apologize, especially to Soljashy. I overreacted.

However, I would like to go on the record as stating that hard translations are still a good idea, though yes, we should probably wait at least a day or two for people to check and double-check the original.
