There's been contradictory things I've heard on this. I haven't read that the laws themselves have changed, but that there was a proposal being pushed by the conservative wing to include loli/shota (well underage nudity in general) under child pornography laws.

The two things I've read is that there is a lot of content being hosted and its expensive enough as it is, the price of moving servers is likely beyond the capital that the owner has. On top of it, he has been dealing with an infection and in general was getting burnt out on managing exhentai. I can't blame someone deciding that if things are going to change, might as well get out while the getting is good.

Well I can't vouch for the validity of it but it was shared on the Discord server so I assumed it was the truth, anyway it's a messed up and scary situation that a site that big can disappear just like that in a matter of days.

Oh, it really went away within a matter of days. There is still a version of it online that does not contain loli/shota stuff, but that as well COULD be shut down in half a year. The owner has had problems running the site since a nasty accident, and the legal matter there was basically too much for him. He's currently looking into alternatives thanks to a bunch of replies, but it's still a big loss for a lot of people. That site also included a lot of things like manuals and out-of-print media that was uploaded.

The same person is administrator, tho he hired temporarily one more worker for this operation. I'm still trying to figure out if Melonpan is truly the one that donated money or he's just trolling on Twitter, but despite his... well... interesting videos he seems to not be person that could lie about this kind of money so make what you want from it.
