I'm kind of surprised the cinnamon roll joke is known to the Chinese/Japanese/Korean base. I thought that one was a uniquely Western joke... since, IIRC, it originated in The Onion

I believe Garrus is talking more about the character archtype rather than the actual in lore joke.

For Japanese anyway, most of their character archtypes tend to be "Something"-dere.

Western character archtypes i notice tend to make more physical compairisons to either animals or objects.

That's exactly it. The whole thing about a character "being a precious cinnamon roll" joke is something I've mostly seen in Western fandoms. I don't think I've seen it referenced frequently if at all by outside of that.

As I understand it (being more of the "I like to look at game lore not so much put time into most gachas" person), it's a running joke for M4A1's overall personality... well, up until recently.
