  • History of Musashi and Kojiro

I'm not sure how many people are familiar with the origin of Musashi and Kojiro's names, but the pair are actually named after two famous Japanese swordsmen and samurai in history. Their names were Miyamoto Musashi and Sasaki Kojiro. (You may also notice that Miyamoto is the name given to Musashi's mother).

Musashi and Kojiro were long time rivals, and that rivalry came to end when Musashi killed Kojiro in probably his most challenging duel.

I've always found it rather ironic that two characters who are ultimately very close to one another are named after two guys who were trying to kill each other.

Perhaps the idea had been bouncing around in my head for too long, but I knew eventually I had to put the Pokemon Musashi and Kojiro into the roles of the real Musashi and Kojiro. This drawing was the result.

Oh, and Kojiro is NOT dead.

I imagine that they've just endured a long epic battle and Kojiro has collapse from exhaustion. However, Musashi still had a tiny bit more fight left in her and dragged herself over to Kojiro to deal the finishing blow. If you look carefully, you'll see that Musashi has opted to plunged her sword into the ground, rather than impale Kojiro. At the end of the day, there's no way she could do that and she's even choosing to grip the blade with her hand. (Although, the real Musashi actually used a wooden sword, but nevermind because I didn't follow the history properly with this drawing anyway).

I know there are a bunch of technical things I failed at in this art, but I still like it and I hope others will too.
