    The method of operating the device was known, but a practical use for it was not known. A situation where a perfect copy of yourself gets spit out from every door was too dangerous. One door was left while the others were welded shut. The problem was solved but, the only type of person who would use this is one who didn't mind crushing a large number of themselves to death in order to create a single copy.

    It's not bad to think of the Duplication Floor as "the others output abnormal things so they were sealed", but for me personally

    "It outputs abnormal things so it was sealed"

    Rather than that

    "It outputs about 100 normal things, but the other 99 were unnecessary so they were sealed to give them a quick death"

    is a more scary idea that separates the madness between monsters and humans.

    If you look over the room's entrance in the third through fifth panels, you may recognize a sequence of text from the very first page of this series that had been written on and then crossed out on the elevator wall. No telling exactly what it means at this point, though.

    I was wondering why only the sealed elevators start spitting out blood. They are all filled to the brim and the new clone just gets jammed into the doors like an overfilled meat grinder.

    Welding the doors shut didn't corrupt or break it, they were welded shut because only the chamber left open produces a perfect clone. The others produce increasingly defective clones, making them too dangerous to leave open.

    Since the question of the cloning elevator comes up again and again, I finally found a few relevant comments and added them to the commentary.
    Based on my limited ability to read moonrunes (and machine translations), it seems like jongyon and JuanValdez had the right idea: a miraculous device twisted by the mundane into something cruel and strange. All the unneeded spares are crushed to death.

    Looking at the the twitter translation this is truly a nightmare floor. It creates 100 perfect clones without any defect. The reason why all the extra doors are shut is because someone didn't want the extra 99 clones roaming around.

    One clone is perfect. The other ones start developing increasingly bad defects.

    Didn't someone already confirm a while ago that that interpretation of the clone chambers was incorrect?

    You can even see it when the otters pulled off all the seals to make an army to fight Anomalous Otter, none of the depicted clones look even slightly off.

    There was only 20 or so clones. I assumed the defects became more pronounced the more of them there were.

    As far as how it actually works, surely there's a better way to disable the excess cloning chambers?

    The defect idea is a fan theory. The artist does not outright reject it, but he prefers the idea that all the clones are completely normal but they're killed because they're unnecessary as he finds that idea much more horrifying.
