The smudges on the writing really gives off the impression that Remi was crying as she wrote that. It's always the little things that hit the hardest.

It's implied, Remi's all grown up and she's talking to a picture with "Fate can't be changed" written behind it, so I guess Remi couldn't change the fate of Sakuya, who as a human, would eventually die of old age. Tragedy of long life is really sad.
