Actually, I think it's a shout-out to the "Burn My Dread" Persona 3 intro. There's a short spot in that where Minato, Yukari, Junpei, Fuuka, and Mitsuru are each holding Evokers, and go from color to all-black outlines one by one.

I can see the iPod commercial influence too, though.
