Technically they aren't sisters at all? Well Amagi and Akagi are but Kaga used to be a Tosa class battleship

I think the best way to put it would be to call Kaga and Akagi step-sisters. Since they were (as near as was possible given Kaga's shorter hull length) converted to CVs along the same design template.
