Which finger are they missing? I read the middle, ring, and pinky are important for grip strength. The index is apparently fairly expendable, being the weakest and least flexible, but I kind of think it being redundant allows for one to adjust their grip and multi-task a bit more.

You can pretty much grip things flawlessly with three fingers, but in Wyverian's case it is generally assumed that the last digit replaces the pinky and ring finger altogether. It is true that index finger aren't flexible and has the weakest grip strength, but it is expected because anatomically if you were to grab something, your thumb will 'seal' the index finger into place by pressing at the tip. The whole point of having the index finger is to complete the opposable thumb.
