A (somewhat) long time ago I used to read the Soul Land/Combat Continent manhua adaptation. It was pretty good with good comedy. However, eventually at least the manhua lost it: the plot become more foolish, the characters acted unnaturally, it skipped novel stuff nonsensically. It's a pity. I ended up dropping it. Maybe it got better later after a temporary slump, maybe not. Not that it would be the only xianxia title to suffer from such problem, but that goes for all literature, of course.
That happens alot. Not just in Wuxia/Xiaxia novels but any story that goes on for too long for its own good, especially when there is a large overhanging plot that just get put off for midway bullshit.
Its always sad to see that, especially if it was something you initially enjoyed.
The good ones tend to know where to end but those are rare especially if they’re popular.
