Actually no, you see, the names are written in japanese to begin with, then translated to english. Well, japan doesnt have a sound for L, and their R is not as strong as ours. So all the "L" in names are or forced or actually R that sounds like L. For example: -Monkey D. Luffy (but when you hear the japanese it almost sound like R) -Runge (again for a long time translation said Lunge)
R and L get usually mistaken when you translate japanese to english. And at the same time, since japanese R is a little of mix with the L sound, it makes people get confused.
