Samus being able to morph ball without the power suit is a cursed thought.
Look at it this way. Dread pretty much confirmed that Samus is barely even biological at this point so her being able to transform into a flesh ball could very well be canon.

But yeah, she's the amalgamation of several planets' and civilizations' bioengineering, both deliberate and accidental, to the point that the fact that something resembling a human mind has retained control of the whole business is a more incredible and awe-inspiring feat than her combat victories.
At this point, the only sensible answer to the question "What species is Samus Aran" is "yes."
