I know that, and that's exactly it. Before Obito DIED. Here in this picture Obito looks very much alive and well, yet the two of them have exchanged eyes with each other.

I'd chalk it up to "Bros for life" or something. And nothing says "your my brother" than giving each other an Eye. "An Eye for an Eye" with a TWIST!
