Papelle is, no surprise, a flat girl that lives in Tappi, a quiet town in the entirely paper-made island of Fortuna. When a mysterious rip formed in the sky, she set off to investigate what could be causing it. Could this be the return of the fabled Pink Dragon that brought the world to life? She is armed with an envelope pouch to hold items and the Wonder-Wand, a mysterious tool that attracts scraps from the environment and can craft them into attacks she can customize, as long as she has collected enough scraps.
She is accompanied by Tailstool, a very lazy cat with an extraordinarily long streamer tail; Gammy, a chipper mailfrog with a distinct envelope-fold head; and Bubun, a local baker of a town Papelle travels to. They might learn some refolding techniques that'll help Papelle in her quest. And also they're cute.
