Clearly, the artist is embellishing.

I think she was supposed to look a lot more boyish in the game.

Just look at Amano's drawings. All of his characters are androgynous.

Well, yeah. That's kinda what I was getting at. Several of her job costumes have her breasts visible (or what counts for visible on a tiny 2D sprite). The best example is the dancer job: http://www.videogamesprites.net/FinalFantasy5/Party/Earth/Dancer4.gif

Actually, I meant the overworld sprite from before she even joined the party. I can't see how anybody wouldn't have guessed from about 30 seconds after her debut that Faris was not only a woman, but also Lenna's sister.

Is that relation a spoiler?

I dont think that applies, I mean, come on, anyone who has played at least 30 mins of the game knows that, thats like saying "Faris = female" is a spoiler
