I wonder if this idea has been done before. Childhood friends getting reincarnated on the opposite sides of the isekai spectrum.

Seems legit. This could be fleshed out into a multi volume comic where the Demon Lord is trying to get back to her world to tell the love of her life how she feels... Only to find out that he never loved her that way.

Speaking of... One of these days I have to commission BaalBuddy to draw a 3 panel coomer comic of me and Medusa (Rider) after the conclusion of my self-insertion fan comic, but have me lamenting that she immediately left me for someone else.

There is. Try reading Tensei Shitara Warui Kuni no Musume Deshita. Basically Main character is reincarnated as the living weapon of the demon lord, while his childhood friend is apparently now the hero.

Nah. The childhood friend never confessed properly, so MC-kun is free to do what he wants.

NTR doesn't require a confession or mutual affection

But then... All those characters in all those mangas that gave up on confessing their feelings because they saw their loved one already had their heart set on another have been cucked?
    That's harsh.

Nah. If the people involved aren't confined in a relationship, it's not NTR.
Unless the couple (dating) or contract (marriage) says otherwise, it's free real estate.
I mean, you can't steal what's already free, right?

THIS is why it's important to say stuff instead of sending mixed signals, ladies.

NTR doesn't work that way. Read my above reply.
For those cases you mentioned, nope. They simply walked away out of insecurity.

Nobody can forbid them from trying to change their loved one's minds, after all.
If you can make them love you despite all that, aren't you the true winner?
It's basically Hinata x Naruto situation.

It can also also include relationships beyond that and not confined to dating or marriage, so long as it still includes a betrayal and abandonment of a bond between the characters to prioritize their sexual lover.

That's really just betrayal while NTR is more focused in like person A (protagonist) is in a romantic relationship with person B but person C (antagonist) mind fucks (sexually or mentally) person B into loving person C until person B doesn't care about person A, which let me just say, is not present at all in here since the Hero didn't even realize his best friend is in love with him

I wasn't talking about this specific strip, just responding on what the previous comment was saying only counted as NTR. If your definition was really true, then a lot of what even their own authors call NTR wouldn't be NTR, so I'm inclined to disagree with the narrow definition you and the previous post claim.

    To shorten it down.

For this to be NTR there has to be mutual attraction or love for each other as the main point of NTR is taking or forcing someone else's affection away from their focus and onto someone else instead via actual mind control or the age old bullshit of sex equals mind break

So no need for being in a relationship or married the main focus for NTR is forcing someone's affection to be on someone else.

It just so happens that it goes hand in hand for people in relationship in doujin but again it is not strictly applicable only for people in a relationship.

Trying to insist it does is just going through all sorts of mental gymnastics at that point since that's not even the main focus of the genre in the first place.

And before it's asked no I hate the genre and knowing about it is mostly a consequence of seeing it so much now a days.

And since we don't have any context for the guy all we can see is that they were childhood friends but nothing more while for the reborn demon lord she did harbor affections for him.

So no in this case no need for NTR.

From that link, courtesy of Google translate:

    Overview:

The situation itself can be said to be a subordinate concept of NTR

It's almost like genres evolve and expand over time, and can encompass many subgenres

NTR is about jealousy and feeling weak, it's about having something taken away from you. That could be a lover, a crush, a friend, or even a family member. It's more about how it's presented, than some absurdly narrow definition demanding romance or mutual affection.
