Yeah, this does at a bit more much needed drama to it.

The manga is already awesome (except for the current arc, though I do like Platina's character) and if you add this it would become epic. All that's left is for a smidgen of fanservice every now and again and we'd have the best manga ever made from a video game (along with Priest).

I want you to explain in detail just how some fanservice makes it ridiculous at said times.

There was a moment just like this image in Chokotto Sister where the main guy just gave up on dating the girl of his dreams. He told her to go and marry her fiance against his own selfish desires to be with her. She thanked him and went on. He was left to sulk by himself until Choko came. They had this really long hug.

A long portion of said hug was spent at an angle looking at Choko's panties. You don't just throw fanservice in an emotional scene. THAT's ridiculous.

what especially makes this heartwarming is how tragic Red's mom seems when you visit her in HeartGold and she mentions Red hasn't called her in ages and talks about how much she misses him.

How many times had she seen that silent boy of hers peering out the window at the world? How many times had he stared down that long road out of town? She had always known it was only a matter of time.

When the day came, she took him in her arms, knowing it could be the last time.

You know I always figured that the mother never said anything because of the way mothers tend to be (Asian wise at least, I'm Chinese and my mother is the same way when I left for college, no hugs or anything just 'byebye, call me sometimes'), they hide a lot of their feelings to their kids especially concerning matters where they missed the kids a lot. So what may appear to be unemotional to some (in game) really fits me. What hurts the most is that the kid doesn't usually realize this until years later that what may have seemed like a casual 'byebye' was the parents trying to be strong watching their kid go out into the world.
