So why don't we call it "pocket_monsters"? (The answer is, with a bit of looking, that "Pokémon" is prevalent enough, and there's a leniency here anyway with video game long-lived video game titles, such as "Legend of Zelda" for "Zelda no Densetsu".)
However, I do feel "pokemon_special" should be "pocket_monsters_special", since the series died out States-side and the localized name was "Pokémon Adventures", so "Pokémon Special" is more a colloquialism for Englishers (the Japanese shorthand is "PokeSupe", and it's not like we're about to use that).
