actually, it makes perfect sense the half ghost, half human thing.

Konpaku is a conjunction of 2 words that refer to the different types of spirit. It's better explained in the wiki, thuogh, but the short is that Myon is the "spirit" self, while Youmu is the "material" self. That's why they both are the same
