I get the feeling we're going to see more of these so-called: 'artists', that are really only using AI-generated images and passing off that 'effort' as their own. I really don't see the appeal of going down that road, if it's AI-generated, I certainly wouldn't want my name on it, it's like claiming a ready-meal was all your own work, just because you pushed a microwave button.

So because I upscaled it to higher res it's now "ai-generated" is that really fair?

See topic #22354. He's lying through his teeth about it. He also tried to upload post #5778333 afterwards with the AI metadata removed by claiming it was the one that didn't go through Stable Diffusion, but didn't even bother changing a single pixel so it got caught by the pixel-perfect duplicate bot.

I have very little knowledge when it comes the technical lingo of images and ai-generated works, I assume by the metadata, it's some sort of code or description attached to an image immediately after it's been generated by an AI? Is there any particular keyword I should look up to spot AI-generated works other than looking at their poor attempts at drawing hands?

Yes. If you click the little arrow next to the post’s size info, you can see all of the image’s metadata.

Does it even matter? Self uploads are forbidden, so whether or not it is AI generated, it still wouldn't be allowed.

They're actually not. Self uploads were never entirely against the rules, just discouraged, and now they're not even mentioned in the upload rules at all.

Not so much but I think an artist should have the idea in mind that if their work is good, someone else will upload your work for you.

I'm not aware of such a Twitter account but if an artist doesn't want to try by self-uploading and maybe getting deleted they can join the Discord and ask for feedback in the #artists channel.
