It opened. This is a play on words that doesn't work well in English. Kiri's catch phrase is 「開けないでよ」 ("Don't open it.") Whereas the Japanese phrase for "happy new year", 「あけましておめでとう」, literally means "congratulations on the opening [of the new year]". Hence "It opened" here refers both to the new year and her blanket.
