The rule of thumb about the 'trap' tag is that if the character is drawn to be very effeminate, then it sticks. Even characters who (based on their looks) could very well pass for either gender are included in this category (and reverse_trap, too).

"Trap" is used when a transgendered or cross-dressing male character looks dangerously woman-like, to the point where anyone who doesn't know he's a guy could easily mistake him for a woman. Bridget from Guilty Gear is probably the most famous example of such a character.
