    I had no idea vampires were weak to beans... unless I missed something all these years, or Remi's secretly an oni?

    The Japanese name for vampires means "blood-sucking oni" I think.

    Indeed it does.
    吸血鬼 = vampire
    吸血 = sucking blood, 鬼 = oni

    I don't think you'll be able to revel in your first success for long, Kogasa. A certain maid may be headed your way.

    either Sakuya is coming to save Remi or she's holding the camera and having a nosebleed

    There's also a legend in the west that if you scatter seeds in front of a Vampire, they won't follow you until they have picked them all up and counted them.

    What the... they must be really bored if they need to count beans whenever they see some.

    Japanese holiday, the day ya throw beans to kick out the onis (Suika) and bring in the good luck. Though personally I don't see any good in kicking out poor Suika, especially when she always brings the drinks for everyone!

    Aside from the whole vampire=blood-sucking oni translation, it was mentioned in Patchouli's "Bohemian Archive in Japanese Red" article that Remilia specifically couldn't touch the beans as they burned her.

    That would explain Count von count's behavior.

    The "oni" part in Japanese for vampire can also mean "ghost", so it doesn't necessary mean "blood-sucking oni", but also "blood-sucking ghost".
