That's what the series should've been named in the first place. After all, it ain't the "Legend of Zelda" if Zelda is not the primary/playable character. So sue me.
no, it is the Legend of Zelda because of the actual Legend of Zelda in the games. Like in there's an actual legend that started the whole naming the hylian princesses Zelda.
I don't know why they don't let you select a gender for Link. You can change his name, he never talks, and he's hardly even acknowledged as being male. They say that each Link is related in some way. Why couldn't one of them be female?
This would be a very nice remix of the character of Link. Instead of being the typical hero, being noble and such this Link would hold no qualms about killing anything that gets in her way. On top of all that she would be a raging lesbian with a massive harem (add a date sim-esque side quest for good measure).

Unless your romantic interest involved a "Prince Zelda" getting rescued, then yes, swapping in a female Link would involve at least implied lesbianism.
Ever since Ocarina of Time, even ignoring Zelda herself, there's always at least a couple different females showing obvious romantic interest in Link. (I.E. Malon, Ruto, etc.) If Skyward Sword is any indication for that matter, the actual characterization of the Link-Zelda romance is only going to get more overt with time.
