Well that's news for me. I thought posts were more welcome that way than with blank space around since the site is mainly about artworks themselves. I wouldn't have done it without a link to the non-cropped image anyway.
I don't think it's a policy or anything (maybe that should be asked in the forums), but it's just my preference. I wouldn't have been as concerned if it was just blank white space, but there was actually text cropped out. The bottom helps identify the artist and where it's from. It's not necessary for tagging in this case, but it's convenient to have there. I have seen some situations where the text is in Japanese and the original uploader didn't know the artist, and so it can be used to help tag it. The text off to the right side really seems like it's part of the image as a whole, even if it is off in the white space.
If it's an image from an artist's website or Pixiv, it should absolutely not be cropped, for some of the same objections as with stitching in forum #38550
I hear you on that. I just felt that uploading both the original and the cropped version would have been overkill considering the source link. Besides, personaly I don't save artworks when they have text or stuff around (calendars, etc.), and I'm probably not alone. People who want their images clean will have to use cropping here, so it's done already. People who'd rather have the full image have the source link. Of course I don't want information to be lost either. Maybe should I have added a comment about the text in the full image to make it more obvious. :\
There are no indications that this is Remilia Scarlet, aside from the blue hair and bat wings, tagged only with 'elf' on the source pic from imouto. As well, only two pictures from the book this is from (Little*Eden) are Touhou characters. Removing Remilia/Touhou tags until this shows up on the artist's Pixiv page with the appropriate tags.
