There's probably no "output". Sure, she controls the fusion and fission in her surroundings, but I seriously don't get where the belief Utsuho herself is radioactive came from.

It doesn't even make sense, the body can't *emit* radiation on a dangerous level... being exposed to it during her nuclear shenanigans, due to being a youkai, her much faster and much more flawless immune system probably absorbed the isotopes right away, repaired the DNA or initiated apoptosis in damaged cells and regenerated the tissue. With that, the only danger I can see would remain in *eating* her, especially the liver or the bone marrow, those would contain a pretty deadly alpha isotope cocktail.

Seriously, she regularly visits the Hakurei shrine, and
as far as I remember, in UFO Reimu still has nice hair.

Oh, and before someone says she is for some reason completely immune to radiation, controlling something doesn't mean being immune to it - Mokou still can be burned etc. (she herself said to Yuyuko that roasting her would hurt as hell).

I doubt she herself is radioactive, thats just silly. but I would all my money down on the elephant's foot being radioactive by itself. Im guessing something else in her Object set (probly the Control Rod) absorbs the radiation, so as long as she has all of her set being around her is safe (except maybe in really close range)

Well, rationally then... the EF would have to be the real deal, and fresh to that, to emit dangerous amounts of radiation (both Chernobyl NPP and Pripyat are virtually safe by now). In my book, most of the accessories are just for the show (the eye, for example). ZUN never made this clear so I suppose it's open for discussion.

Regarding the radiation absorption, there probably isn't a way it would work. You could somehow put an immensely strong EM field to stop or repel beta particles and gamma rays, but there is no way to stop the uncharged hi-energy neutrons, so even if the rod did this, it wouldn't be a complete protection. I am convinced that she receives substantial amounts of radiation during the usage of her powers, but being a strong youkai, she just shakes it off. Humans can deal with weak radiation really well thanks to the native "repair system" (though there is always a chance it will damage the wrong DNA sequence and the cells will go batshit) so I thougt that with youkai organism being basically superior in every imaginable way, this ability should reach the degree when they will be pretty much immune to both acute radiation poisoning and the long term consequences. It always bugged me how the player character in Subterranean Animism was shielded, though. Seems like "Magic" will have to work.

Anyway, the rod is a very interesting concept. I guess the only way it could possibly work is manipulating matter on a subatomic level, making the particles unstable, then just adding a little "push" to shift them into fission / fusion. The easiest things to explain would be actually her xbox huge spellcards - just turn the giant amounts of hydrogen in air into deuterium and tritium, heat, stir, heat a *damn* lot, and voila, you got a delicious chain of nuclear fusion.

well its the sign that ZUN is doign it right. way this industry works, if the fans arent talking then the fans dont like your work, and youre a failure. if they can sit all day wildly speculating on points that you didn't give all the details for (either withheld or just didnt bother thinking that in-depth) then you are a winner
