she's taller than average for women pretty much everywhere, and a good deal taller than average female height for Japan. that said, she's shorter than any of the women in even my extended family, I have a really tall family
But these days Asian kids (in the better off countries) tend to grow pretty tall on average with plenty of meat and co. 172cm isn't exactly outstanding.
Maybe in the standards in the times of Ancient Greece 172 cm might have been tall. And people in the Mediterranean did tend to be smaller than the people up north.

I don't think so. My mom (may she rest in peace) was about 174 cm. And was 170 cm. Rider's height seem so strange to me. However I myself am 188 cm(190 cm w/shoes on), and I do live in the states.
Like Koto said, it's taller than any of the other main characters (although not a fully-grown Shirou). And, more to the point, it's taller than the vast majority of people in Ancient Greece would be.
To us, that height isn't unusual (even for a woman) but to a Japanese person or an Ancient Greek, it would be.
To tell you the truth... in 79 D.C. the womans of Pompei didn't reach 165 cm... well... 165 cm was pretty tall even for mans... so I suppose that even in the Ancient Greece 172 cm might have been tall. And I can confirm that Mediterranean people are pretty short, compared to the other. Sorry for bad english XD but all of you are giants! I don't reach the 170 cm!
