no, it's actually a homage to Xiang Yu during the Chu-Han border war, during a battle which occurred before Han Xin Defected. The idea was to burn all the boats and destroy all the cooking equipment, which therefore made retreat impossible, so no soldiers could desert. Furthermore, the destruction of cooking supplies meant that the soldiers had to give their all and finish the battle as quickly as possible, improving motivation and determination.
