That looks like pre crisis superman.
I'm not going to take sides but that fight better not be happening on this planet.

    Pre-Crisis Supes literally juggled planets.

The fight better be happening in some other solar system. Preferably another galaxy.

I once saw a lengthy argument that revolved around silver-age loopyness of "superman can do anything" and the assumption that since Goku was never seen juggling planets or holding a black hole in his hand that he can't. Granted silver age had whatever physics as the plot demands.

The question isn't who'd win in a fight.

It's what would survive if they teamed up.

I dun really like Goku that much and grew up watching and reading superman, but I have to say that Goku would win. It is a definite evidence that Goku can destroy a planet with his own power whereas Super probably could but would end up horribly injured.

One similiarity is that the two of them gain their powers from a definite source. Goku from all life while Supeman the sun.

Id say Goku would win but only by a small margin.

Only one flaw with that. Goku has his own power source. Superman has to absorb sunlight from the earth's sun. The "Alien" race that superman is from are actually virtually the same as earth humans. As evidence as shown when fellow Kryptonians arrived on earth, they were powerless untill they absorbed enough sunlight.

If Goku wanted to be a jerk, he could teleport him and superman to some other planet/heaven and superman could'nt do jack.

Yeah Goku could teleport him near a red sun or even a planet made out of kriptonite but considering how his teleportation works he might also end up inside a yellow sun. Which would be bad.

Wizard Magazine did an issue on this fight.
They said Son Goku would win just by going to SSJ level.

Superman can fly through a sun, Goku cant. plus Ki isnt magic so Goku should go full force against Supes. iirc in order for Goku to teleport to a place, there should be life on it.

It doesn't matter. Goku if he wanted, could easily destroy the sun. SO saying Superman can survive being in the sun is a moot point when going against someone who could destroy it just by turning SSJ. If Goku went any higher than that it would be overkill for Superman, and that is just with Goku. Imgine if Superman was fighting Frieze or Cell who can survive ANYWHERE, or SSJ4 Gogeta, or Omega Shinron? Superman gets pwned.

haha who knows? I just think overall it would be just a fight out of respect despite who won. They are both selfless and class acts so it would more than likely just be a friendly fight to test the others abilities and such. I still feel Goku could win but overall it really dosen't matter. Just two epic warriors having a fair, and epic battle. ^_^

Well let's look at it this way. Since Superman has never had the limits of his powers specified, there is no definite answer to the outcome of this battle. One could be stronger while the other one weaker, or both could be evenly matched.

Another issue that has been subject to "What if's?" is the tactics used by either character towards the other. Both characters personalities would never allow themselves to do dastardly deeds in order to win, they would both fight fairly, Goku especially. I also agree with another person in saying that they would at one point stop the fight, smile, and walk/fly off in a random direction, arm over shoulder in a newly gained friendship. Winner never determined.

Death battle is NOT a credible source. They half ass a lot of their research leaving out extremely important details and only including the ones that influence a battle to look "even".

Except this time they did a LOT of research.

    Also Superman beat Goku... easily.

Someone else also did a comparison, with his own formula that gave Son Goku more modifies and even gave Son Goku a bonus 1,000,000,000x mod, and he was still 150th the strength of Superman.

Watched the video a while back and the ending bugged me.
When Superman gets thrown into the Sun the Sun should not be yellow, it should be white (what color would you expect it to be at 5778K?) and therefor would not have given him the power-up.

It isn't the yellow so much as the energy content; the higher the sun is on the electromagnetic spectrum, the more and faster it charges Superman. Red gives him nothing, yellow makes him Superman, higher than that makes him even better. Besides, he's canonically gone into the sun before for a supercharge.

Prime universe Superman stayed in the core of Sol for 1,500 years and basically was an omnipotent god.

I think what determines the winner is if they're following the rules for Western media or Eastern Media.

In Western media, they'll be too evenly matched or Supes will have the lower hand, until he breaks off to get a plot device from the collection. In Eastern media, being particularly faithful to the DBZ traditions, Supes will politely stand back and nervously wait for Goku's two episode powering-up sequence that'll make him strong enough to curb stomp Supes until Goku allows him to do his own powering-up sequence.

The problem is that superman is relatively unharmed unless the assailant is magic. The operational definition of magic in his universe is something that defies understanding or reality. The extending pole would hurt him, but the kamehameha and other ki attacks would do nothing. The issue with the argument is that in reality they would never fight. They both have protective complexes preventing them from destroying the planet and honestly wouldn't fight in the first place.
Not to mention the Power levels that differ e tween the IPs.

In my opinion arguing this match is pointless, because I consider that nothing published in superhero stories to ever be canon, even those by the mother companies themselves. This is due to a simple fact:

Comics change writers around, and every writers have their own biases and interpretations. Sometimes Superman will never be hurt by anything and some will even claim he can flawlessly win even an enemy wearing a Kryptonite suit on a Kryptonite island, or has enough power to move the friggin sun, while in the others he can be injured by attacks from other heroes who simply hits hard enough, even without the help from magic(ie. Aquaman, and this is giving credits that Aquaman is one of the heroes who can lift skyscrapers), and all these info are published as 'canon' in one official writer's work or another.

This leads to a very liquid canon that no "limit" is set in stone, therefore the min-max power levels of Superman can vary by several thousand times depending on who you ask.

That's why I'll always see 'comic book character VS anything' arguments being little more than fanboys' struggle for personal opinionated superiority rather than actual factual claims.

This is pretty much how I feel about it. Power levels are irrelevant - the winner of a matchup, especially a crossover matchup, is determined by what the writer thinks is the best story. The fanboys you refer to, in this case, are just wannabe authors who are too biased in favor of one character or canon to objectively judge what would make a good story.
