Well obviously this one mimics ZUN's style. Besides, let's face it - ZUN is less of an artist than a game designer/composer (until recently, if just a bit). You should've seen his character portraits from HRtP onwards, barring the Tasogare fighting spinoffs, with character portraits by alphes.

Wanna see something horrible? Check this shit out (hell, even ZUN can draw better). Warning though - the art alone is but the tip of the iceberg.

Thanks very much for the translations, the only character I knew the name already was Yahouou Miyako, because I posted a pic of her solo sometime ago with her namesake, but it was deleted because it got unapproved in 3 days.

No, that's not what I meant. I am used to ZUN's art, actually, I like it more than the Alphes' fightan portraits (originality > generic style). I mean, the artists just throw random shit on a character and are all like "Wow, so random, now I'm just like ZUN!" That's bullshit. ZUN, contrary to the popular belief, has taste when it comes to character design, he just can't draw for shit. His mimickers have nothing like that.

Am I the only one that likes touhou OC's? I think liking only the canon characters just because it was made by ZUN is ignorance. Because most of the original ones despite not being made by the same person, are very loyal to the touhou style, with the same degree of detail and extravagance. I'm pretty sure if ZUN were the author of those characters, everyone would be like "Oh GOD, they're so awesome!!!"

Agreed with this. I do like quite a few of the OCs I've seen. (I even have some of my own in an RP I'm in.)

But I'll be honest. I don't really like these. I'm not sure why, they just seem kinda lame to me. I've seen worse though.

That's not what I said. It's not about detail or extravagance (though the artists definitely think it is, and that's also why they fail). Character design is a sophisticated thing and it's not like ZUN didn't manage to design shitty characters before. But if you decide to fuck around with extravagance, there is a thin line between innovativeness and tastelessness. ZUN consistently manages to keep the balance in his favor, OC authors usually don't.

No. They were drawn following a single principle - to be random. You call this originality, I call it poseurism.

There are not extreme extravagant or less extravagant
characters, either a character is extravagant or not, and this is what makes them look touhou-like. Though, I definitively agree that those characters have something uncommon with the official touhou characaters, and it's those strange textures on their clothes, I think this is scaring people off, but even so, they still have the charm you can find on any other touhou official character.

Oh man. I'm at a loss for words. Hideous art aside - the guy literally ripped off everything from random Touhou games (95 % of the patterns are just copypasta), but he STILL managed to make it suck horribly nevertheless. That takes goddamn a lot of skill.

As far as I know, there's no record of that. But you can solve it by setting your comment threshold to a negative value (-1000 or whatever) so you always see all the comments.
