    There's something about Re-Captcha: it knows if you are typing the word correctly or not. Then, why does it claim to be an OCR needing help, if it already knows what the word is in the first place?

    That's why reCAPTCHA uses two words: one is already known, the other is not. Once enough people type in the same thing for an unknown word, it moves to the list of known words.
