Koishi's ability will never make sense to me.

It apparently doesn't make sense to her, either.

Have you ever walked into a room and forgotten what you came to do, or searched for something only to realize it was in your hand? She does that to people.

The subconscious and conscious mind works together in perceiving your surroundings, take one out and your brain doesn't register stuff properly even though it's right there.
It's kinda like hypnotism/brainwashing but different. I'm sure Koishi would be noticed if she bumped into somebody or made loud noises, then they'd be all "oh wow didn't even realize she was there!".

You're all making it way too complicated, except for Dang.

You know the Someone Else's Problem Field in Hitchhiker's? Her power can be used to that effect, essentially.

Or alternatively: perception filter!

Basically, the people who see her don't deem her as significant or out of the ordinary. To them, Koishi is effectively as out-of-place in the mansion as the windows or the carpet on the floor.

As has been said in various other places, think of the "Somebody Else's Problem field" from Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy.

They may see her, but they don't register her as anything interesting and ignore her. If she touches someone or makes herself known, then the effect is gone, but if she's quiet and acts like the group, she gets away with damn near anything (eg changing clothes in public)

I think the best way to explain it is that she's not literally invisible. She's invisible in a much better way, one which works even if she speaks or bumps into things or even fights. She's *socially* invisible. People can see her, but they don't pay her attention and they don't understand the significance of her presence or anything she's doing, and then she gets forgotten once out of sight.

Perception Filter, just how the TARDIS operates. To quote the Doctor:
