Vietnamese here, those flowers are mainly used as a symbol for summer (holiday/vacation) and exams and youth, too. Every single school in here must have at the very least one poinciana tree, lol. When they bloom, they would usually flare up spectacularly, yet not many people really look up and appreciate their beauty.... probably because looking at the flowers reminds them of the upcoming exams (which, for 9th and 12th graders, are very intense and competitive).
